Knowing is an irony

Image
Knowledge is a double edge sword. While possession of knowledge is sometimes helpful and often admirable, it can also lead to all sorts of problems under different scenarios. Case 1: Boyfriend cheated, would you prefer to know the cold heart truth or not know at all and continue with your day to day life?! I wonder if the partner will lead a happier life as he lives his remaining life not knowing what had happened?? Case 2: Taste of fortune. A person who was born poor and remains poor for his entire life, would he/she be more optimistic when experiencing a financial downfall and thus be happier compared to a wealthy one? Case 3: A dying patient and there is only a day remaining of her life. Would she die peacefully without knowing death is on to her in 24 hours or otherwise rushing to do her unfinished business knowing that she will never be able to complete them all?? Positional Goods

Today I've seen an interesting piece of journal. Link provided below. http://business.theage.com.au/business/rich-get-richer-but-are-the-poor-that-poorer-20090508-ay48.html?page=1 Do we need positional goods to lead a good life? In the current society, it seems to me that there is no harm to obtain various positional goods. In fact, it appears that positional goods can be a stepping stone for achieve different goals, eg . a nicer job, a more stable neighbourhood , better circle of friends and many more status related stuff. While I do not disagree the meaning of positional goods, I believe some people ha...

Facing The Choice

Everyday we face a thousand of questions, and while some of them are important, but frankly most of them aren't. Whether they are important or not, we almost always forget each of those decisions will be contingent on the following questions we face. Like where should we eat today for lunch, then the next question is what to eat in there ...How much should I spend over lunch, should I dine in or takeaway..etc Questions will just pop out one after another and seems never ending... Of course, this example obviously falls into the not so important catagory but it prompts me to think how do we deal with those questions which will affect our life to a great extend? It is only a fact that sometime we do not have sufficient time to thoroughly examine all the posibble outcomes and yet required to make a decision on the spot. Is that true? I once heard the qoute and it goes like this. "If you immediately know candlelight is fire, the meal was cooked long time ago." Perhaps as a h...
